My Semester at Yonsei — Why I'd Choose Homessignature Again

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finding housing in Seoul as a French exchange student felt overwhelming at first. My university gave me a list of options — mostly dormitories with curfews and shared rooms — and I spent two weeks going down rabbit holes of Korean real estate forums before a friend from my program mentioned Homessignature. I'm genuinely glad I found it when I did.

The Apartment

I stayed in a studio in Sinchon — about an 8-minute walk from Yonsei's main gate, which meant I could sleep until 8:50 and still make a 9 AM class without running. The apartment was smaller than what I was used to in Paris, but the layout was really well thought out. Everything had a place. The bed was comfortable (genuinely — I've stayed in hotels that were worse), the kitchen had what I needed for actual cooking, and the washing machine inside the unit was something I didn't know I needed until I had it.

The all-inclusive utilities were a genuine relief. In Paris I spend a meaningful amount of mental energy managing bills. Here I paid my monthly rent and forgot about it. Water, electricity, gas — all handled. One less thing during what was already a very full semester.

What I Didn't Expect

The response time when I had questions. I arrived and my key card wasn't working — sent a message and had a working solution within 20 minutes. Later in the semester I had a minor issue with the hot water; it was fixed the same day. I've had landlords in France take three weeks to fix a broken window. The contrast was stark.

The location also turned out to matter more than I expected. Being in Sinchon meant I was 5 minutes from the Ewha campus (I took two classes there through a cross-enrollment arrangement), 10 minutes from Hongdae on foot, and directly on Line 2 for anywhere else. I never once wished I'd chosen somewhere in central Seoul or Gangnam — the convenience of being right by campus was worth more than a trendy neighbourhood.

One Honest Note

The apartment is genuinely studio-sized. If you need a dedicated desk separate from your bed, factor that in. I used a lap desk and managed fine, but for someone who needs a proper study setup it's worth clarifying before booking. I wish I'd asked about this beforehand — not a complaint, just a practical note for future guests.

Would I Recommend It?

Without hesitation. I've already sent the link to three friends who are doing exchanges in Seoul next year. The combination of location, price, and actual responsiveness when things go wrong is hard to find in any city, let alone one where you're navigating everything in a second language. Seoul was everything I hoped it would be, and having a home base that worked made all the difference.
